Coastal sensors (Trophimatique)
Output characterisation | |
OUTPUT SENTENCE | New miniaturised in situ sensors, capable of high frequency analysis. |
OUTPUT TYPE | prototype |
WATER TOPIC | Quality of natural systems |
KEYWORDS | sensors, coastal water, water samplers |
OUTPUT DESCRIPTION |
New designs and first uses of new sensors: Trophimatique aims at producing a multi-parameter probe, remotely operated, with a water sampler, and chemical onboard analysers (CHEMINI).
These onboard analysers can measure :
Nitrates, Silicates, Phosphates, and Ammonium.
|
STATE OF DEVELOPMENT | The probe multisensor is developed and finished. It has been tested in situ satisfactorily, and can even be adapted to 2 buoy models (SMATCH and MOLIT) depending on the needs (surface and/or depth sampling). |
INNOVATIVE ASPECTS AND ADVANTAGES | - New system - Everything can be remotely operated - Can sample surface water or deep water. - Can be used to validate several Water Framework Directive criteria for water characterization |
INTELLECTUAL/INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY RIGHTS | ©Ifremer 2006 on the CHEMINI sensors used in the Trophimatique probe. ©Ifremer 2009 on the Trophimatique probe itself. |
TRANSFERABILITY | This knowledge can be transferred to any other site with coastal waters, and could probably be used on lake or river sensors as well. |
POTENTIAL USERS/CLIENTS | Public organisations such as local authorities to monitor their chemistry contamination levels, consultancy offices for the same purpose. |
BUSINNESS CASE | Yes |
Estimation of risks | |
INNOVATIVE DISADVANTAGE | Some sensors already exist to monitor coastal waters. |
EVALUATION OF RISKS FOR OUTPUT USERS | The risk is low : - prototypes have been tested at sea and proven to work succesfully - in some cases, storms can incur the loss of a buoy. |
ECONOMICAL RISKS | Low risk, loss of a buoy during a storm |
TECHNICAL RISKS | No risk, system already tested |
MARKET RISKS | No risk, it's a new system |
SOCIAL RISKS | No risks known |
Steps ahead | |
NEXT STEPS TO ACHIEVE THE STATUS 'READY TO USE' | The output is ready to use, but not well known. |
TASKS TO BE PERFORMED |
Information about the Trophimatique sensors should be disseminated widely. |
