MARKET NEED TAILORED

There is clear evidence that human activity is influencing climate leading to strong impacts and changes in natural and human systems. New policies must be carried out beyond mitigation efforts (reduction of greenhouse gases). Recommendations on how to produce those policies are needed.

OUTPUT DESCRIPTION

Water planning adaptation to climate change impacts. The main objectives are (1) to establish land vulnerabilities according to water availability and (2) to propose adaptations addressed to overcome these vulnerabilities. And finally, to suggest recommendations on how to optimize future water uses.

STATE OF DEVELOPMENT

Small scale Pilot catchments:

The study areas are three medium-sized catchments which represent different environmental conditions: Fluvià, Tordera and Siurana

INNOVATIVE ASPECTS AND ADVANTAGES

The multi-disciplinary approach at detailed scale and the integrated balance of water use.

INTELLECTUAL/INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

All models used in the methodology are free use software. *All results are public free access

TRANSFERABILITY

Methodology can be used in any other catchments at local level scale.

POTENTIAL USERS/CLIENTS

Municipalities, other river basin areas, public bodies and research centers

 Estimation of risks
TECHNICAL RISKSUncertainties of the modelling analysis
 Steps ahead
NEXT STEPS TO ACHIEVE THE STATUS 'READY TO USE'
  • Improvement of the assessment of social vulnerabilities
  • Include a cost-benefit assessment of the results
TYPE OF PARTNER FOR THE NEXT DEVELOPMENTSPublic organisations producing policies (local environmental bodies, river basin agencies), universities, research centres and environmental consulting enterprises.
TASKS TO BE PERFORMED
  • More local tests to check the usefulness of the methodology
  • Integration of ACCUA recommendations in the elaboration of the water environmental policies.
  • Improvement of the methodology used in other contexts and scales
