OUTPUT SENTENCE

Management of reservoirs to maintain good ecological potential.

OUTPUT TYPEe-tool
WATER TOPICQuality of natural systems
MARKET NEED TAILORED

European standards require a prohibitive management of reservoirs in order to:

- Maintain a good ecological potential of water resources and related ecosystems;

- Require the use of water tanks according to their economic function and ensure the safety of buildings looming in the conditions of natural and technological hazards;

- To guarantee security in terms of natural and technological hazards.

According to the Water Framework Directive, the European Union countries need to intensify activities for the sustainable management of water resources in order to obtain their good status by 2015. Product helps achieving the above requirements by improving the security needs of the population for water supply by minimizing the cost of water treatment and optimizing the management of storage reservoirs, maintaining high standards of environmental quality and environmental safety in extreme situations.

OUTPUT DESCRIPTION

Product design - Integrated Reservoir Management System with instructions interpretation of the results of the system and developed management scenarios (scenario of a modeling work + interpretation).

Numerical model of the dam reservoir simulation and forecasting of the state are:

- An information system that allows ongoing assessment of functional status and quality of the tank, and forecasting the short-term and long-term changes,

- Reservoir management support system in terms of quantity and quality of water resources, and optimize operational decisions,

- The basis for making rational decisions to protect and maintain the function of ensuring good ecological potential reservoir.

STATE OF DEVELOPMENT

Ongoing- completion of the project scheduled for 2014; Activities achieved: 60%; Activities remaining: 40%

INNOVATIVE ASPECTS AND ADVANTAGES

Integrated Reservoir Management System:

  • a tool for the extreme hydrological effects assessment and extraordinary environmental effects assessment;
  • a tool for rationalization of processes and improvement control of the tank in relation to physicochemical and biological processes;
  • reduction of the unpredictability of the effects occurring in the reservoir tank;
  •  improvement of floods and droughts protection;
  •  improvement of drinking water reservoirs;
  •  protection of natural values and reservoir fisheries management;
  •  a set of management principles to ensure high standards of environmental quality;
  •  a set of criteria and principles of optimization of water resource management.

After adaptation to local conditions, the system can be used to the various reservoirs management.
