MARKET NEED TAILORED

This method will help to solve problems of fallopia genus (renouée du Japon) invasion in France and other european countries.

OUTPUT DESCRIPTION

Rivers banks across France and other european countries are invaded by fallopia species (renouée du Japon). The project aims to seek effective ways of restoring endemic plant communities affected by the invasion in searching competing species resistant to allelopathic compounds generated by fallopia species. Also, the project works on species with chemical weapons against fallopia species.

STATE OF DEVELOPMENT

Research begins in 2008. Publications on the subject from 2008 to 2012. Methodology is now available. A user's guide has been produced.

INNOVATIVE ASPECTS AND ADVANTAGES

Fallopia genus is everywehere. Many methods have been tried and no one succeeds. The interest of the actual research is to develop biological weapons against this invasive plant.

INTELLECTUAL/INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

Intellectual property rights belong to Conseil General de la Loire.

TRANSFERABILITY

This methodology will be useful across european countries confronted to this problem.

POTENTIAL USERS/CLIENTS

Rivers managers and technicians across EU.

 Estimation of risks
INNOVATIVE DISADVANTAGE

No disadvantages.

EVALUATION OF RISKS FOR OUTPUT USERS

Users have to understand methodology and adapt it to their local context.

ECONOMICAL RISKSLow risks, only investments on works for implementation of suitable species.
TECHNICAL RISKSLow risks
MARKET RISKSLow risks
SOCIAL RISKSRisks with species hated by the people like sambucus ebulus efficiency against fallopia.
 Steps ahead
NEXT STEPS TO ACHIEVE THE STATUS 'READY TO USE'

Dissemination through rivers networks.

INVOLVEMENT OF THE OWNER FOR THE NEXT STEPSimplication through research.
TYPE OF PARTNER FOR THE NEXT DEVELOPMENTSRiver technicians and managers on the field.
TASKS TO BE PERFORMED

Diffusion of user's guide.

COLLABORATION DETAILS

To reach a "ready to use" level, the users need few help... User's guide is simple to understand.

 Estimation of ressources
RESOURCES FOR NEXT STEPS

Needs of time for user's appropriation, money to make installations and nurseries for plants.

FORESEEN COSTS FOR NEXT STEPS

No foreseen costs.
