MARKET NEED TAILORED

Solution applicable to the Smart City of the future, monitoring and management of large wireless networks.

OUTPUT DESCRIPTION

Automated Meter Reading solution for non-energized meters (gas and water) in urban areas, based on autonomous, wireless, low-cost devices.

STATE OF DEVELOPMENT

Ready to serve. Demonstrator on field

INNOVATIVE ASPECTS AND ADVANTAGES

Scalability
•500 wireless terminal nodes per cluster
•Urban area network by superposition of clusters
•Wide coverage –800m line of sight –250m trespassing walls

Low cost
•Per terminal node, due to a specific hardware design
•Per building, up to 50 meters per terminal node
•Per cluster, with up to 500 nodes (terminal or router terminal per cluster)

Low Power Consumption
•10 years battery duration with hourly reading and daily transmission •Autonomous (non-energized routers) §Universality
•Valid for 95% present installed meters: inductive, pulse reading, and electronic meters (UNE 82326)

Integration to AMR systems
•Data storage in a standard database accessed with web service •Integration to management systems (billing, maintenance,.. This means that it is compatible.

INNOVATIVE DISADVANTAGE

There are similar outputs in the market trying to cover the smart cities challenge.
Due to the competence, a response to a huge demand is difficult because they have not the resources for a production of a big demand.

EVALUATION OF RISKS FOR OUTPUT USERS

The main risk in the implementation of this output is with regards of the competence in the market due to the existence of similar solutions in the market and the renascent of new technologies to achieve the challenges of the Smart cities

ECONOMICAL RISKSThe output was created in Spain under the current crisis situation, even though this output increases the efficiency of the current meter systems, the market need created can be postponed because the users cannot invest money in order to make improvements. This smart meter system can read leakages in advance, more than the existing solutions, this in the long term reduces costs.
TECHNICAL RISKSThere is a technical limitation in the production, now it is just a demoinstrator scale, if there is any potential user with a bigger demand, the production response might be limited.
MARKET RISKSAt national level there are solutions covering the same market need, as well as global level. There is a potential market at international level, although the demonstration activity might be limited
SOCIAL RISKSThey need to obtain trust on their system. The main target are public enterprises (water utilities), which are facing political and social problems and the hiring process of smart meters is not always transparent.

Commercialization and Dissemination

INVOLVEMENT OF THE OWNER FOR THE NEXT STEPSYes, partnership, commercial agreement,
COLLABORATION DETAILS

- Local water utilities (municipalities) dealing with water management.
- Other mediators in the process of water meters (user’s associations, residential areas, etc.)

 Estimation of ressources
RESOURCES FOR NEXT STEPS

Need of resources for production (so far they can produce about 500 units, but the normal quantity is about 100.000 units)
